Dry Eye Disease is caused by a variety of factors that reduce tear production or increase tear evaporation. Common causes include aging, hormonal changes, autoimmune diseases like Sjögren’s syndrome, prolonged screen time, environmental conditions, and the use of certain medications such as antihistamines and antidepressants.
Dry Eye Disease is typically diagnosed through a comprehensive eye exam that includes evaluating your symptoms, examining the surface of your eyes, measuring tear production (Schirmer’s test), and assessing tear film stability with tests like fluorescein staining or tear breakup time.
Custom Scleral Lenses are beneficial for individuals with severe Dry Eye Disease, keratoconus, corneal irregularities, or those who have undergone corneal surgeries. These lenses create a protective moisture chamber over the cornea, providing comfort, improved vision, and long-term relief.
